Lifeguard games are a great way to break the ice before a briefing, make training more fun, or to spice up any in-service training. The important part is to make sure that your game is not only fun, but also tests the knowledge of your lifeguards. Today we will give you the rules for how to play the “Oxygen Equipment Relay Race.”
Objective of the game: Split the class into two or more teams and then run a relay race between them. Test the knowledge of your lifeguards by challenging them and assemble/disassemble oxygen tanks.

- 2 or more Child Non-rebreather Masks
- 2 or more Oxygen Tubing (if desired)
- 2 or more Nasal Cannula With Tubing (if desired)
- 2 or more BigEasy® rescue breathing masks or the similar
How to play:
- Split the teams (evenly) into lines and move their first response bag 10-20 feet in front of the line.
- Begin the game with a whistle blow.
- The player at the front of each line must must glove up and run to the lifeguard first response bag.
- Once at the bag the player must either either hook up or disconnect the; big easy, bvm, tubing, regulator, oxygen, tank-key, etc (whatever you see fit for the race).
- The player then runs back to the team and touches the hand of the next player in line once they have completed the tank assembly.
- The next player in line repeats the opposite process by taking the tank apart.
- once a player has completed the process they should sit on the floor.
- The first team to have all players complete the process wins.
- Have fun.
- Trainers must confirm that a tank has been assembled, or disassembled correctly.
